Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on June 1, 2017, Darien police officers arrested Norwalk resident Jorge Canola for alleged impaired driving after he was stopped making an illegal turn onto Old Kings Highway South.
At the time of the traffic stop, police said that Canola did not have a valid driver's license, had been busted repeatedly for driving with a suspended license, he had alcohol on his breath, and bloodshot eyes.
Canola ultimately admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening, police said, while saying he had been drinking earlier that night.
On Sunday, March 6, Canola surrendered at Darien Police Headquarters on an arrest warrant, where he was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence;
- Possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana;
- Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license;
- Driving with no headlamps.
Canola was processed and held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
